Flood Devastation: 136 Died in Flood-Related Incidents in Maharashtra

Roads were flooded in many parts of Kolhapur. Konkan rail route has resumed from Saturday. The movement of trains on it was stopped on Friday.

Rain continues to wreaking havoc in Maharashtra on Saturday as well. Since Thursday evening, 136 people have died in different rain-related incidents. NDRF, Navy and Army have rescued more than 8 thousand people from the badly affected Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts. More than 200 villages have lost contact with major areas.

There is a red alert of rain in the areas of Maharashtra adjoining Goa for the next two days. Here 18 teams of NDRF have been deployed in 6 districts. 8 teams are on alert. 2 teams are engaged in the rescue at the site of the landslide in Raigad on Friday. Apart from this, rescue operations are being conducted with the help of the Navy in Raigad and the Army in Kolhapur, Ratnagiri.

Trains started on the Konkan route

Roads were flooded in many parts of Kolhapur. Konkan rail route has resumed from Saturday. The movement of trains on it was stopped on Friday due to the submergence of the tracks.

20 km long jam on Pune-Bengaluru highway

The floodwaters have gone out in Mahad, but the signs of destruction are still visible on the roads. The Pune-Bengaluru highway near the Kini toll plaza is closed due to heavy rains. There is a long queue of vehicles up to 20 km.

The death toll in Raigad reached 44

The death toll in landslides in Maharashtra's Raigad district due to heavy rains has risen to 44. On Friday, 32 bodies were recovered from Talai village, while others were found in a nearby village. The administration has intensified the search and rescue operation here in collaboration with NDRF.

6 bodies were found in the Poladpur landslide

A landslide occurred around 10 pm on Thursday night in Govele Panchayat of Poladpur taluka of Ratnagiri. It is reported that about 10 houses have come under its grip. 6 bodies have been recovered from the spot. 10 people have been rescued. Satara Collector Shekhar Singh said that 30 people are missing after the landslide in Patan. 300 people have been rescued. On the other hand, 8 patients admitted here died due to water filling in the Covid Hospital of Chiplun.

PM gave financial help to the families of the deceased

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of those who lost their lives in the landslide and Rs 2 lakh each by the Center. The injured will be given an assistance amount of Rs 50,000 each.

Red alert regarding rain in 7 districts of Karnataka

Heavy rains lashed Karnataka in the last 24 hours. There was flooding in many areas. Three people are reported to have died. Two are missing. Landslides have occurred at least 8 places. More than 9,000 people have been evacuated from flood-affected areas. There is a red alert for rain in 7 districts of the state – Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu.

Dam breaks in Bihar's Supaul

The Sikarhatta-Majhari dam broke on Friday due to the strong current of the Kosi river in Supaul, Bihar. The floodwater entered dozens of villages. DM, SP and Chief Engineer of the department are camping on the spot. People are taking shelter on NH-57. According to the report, the part of the dam that broke was under pressure for several days, but the water resources department did not pay heed. Former RJD MLA Yaduvansh Yadav alleged that the department has deliberately broken it so that loot can be done in the name of work.

Heavy floods hit Goa after decades

Roads and bridges were submerged in water due to heavy rains in Goa on Friday. There has been a flood here after decades. Property worth crores have been damaged due to this. More than 400 people have been shifted to safer places. Two trains were also derailed due to a landslide and a surge in the river. Heavy rain is expected here for the next three days.
