Five Rockets Fired at Israel from Gaza Strip

Five rockets were fired in Israel from the Gaza Strip, after which Israeli tanks retaliated against Hamas military posts.

The army said in a statement that no casualties have occurred during this period. Rockets were fired a few hours after the expiry of the border between Israel and Gaza Strip, and Israel responded

Earlier, in response to a rocket attack by Israel from the Palestinian territories, Israel had attacked Gaza Strip including Hamas's top leader's office. Israel opened public shelters for people to avoid a possible bomb attack in most major cities and civil defense officials canceled sports tournaments and public transport services in southern Israel.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians rallied in the Gaza Strip on Saturday to mark the anniversary of their mass protests along the Israeli border.

Most demonstrators kept their distance from the border, though small crowds of activists approached the perimeter fence. The forces responded with tear gas and opened fire, killing four Palestinians and wounding 64.

Israel's army had said that at least 30 rockets were fired in the country late at night.

What is Hamas?

Hamas is the most prominent Islamic extremist organization in the Palestinian territories. It was formed during the mass movement of 1987. Since then, it has been struggling to remove the Israeli army from the Palestinian territories. Hamas does not recognize Israel and wants to establish the Islamic nation in the entire Palestinian territories.
