The air strike was carried out by the Indian Air Force on 14 February 2019 in an attempt to avenge the Pulwama Terror Attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. 40 CRPF personnel were killed in the terror attack in Pulwama. The entire operation was successfully completed in a few minutes.

IAF jawans of the Indian Air Force demolished the Jaish-e-Muhammad's terrorist hideout in Balakot, Pakistan in the early hours of 26 February.
