In the beginning, the technical fault was cited as the reason for the plane crash
The aircraft took off from Imam Khamnai International Airport. Airport senior public relations officer Ali Khashani said a Boeing 737 operated by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) crashed on Wednesday near Parand, a city in Robat Karim County. Khashani said that the aircraft caught fire soon after the accident, which could be due to technical fault.
The accident occurred hours after Iran fired ballistic missiles at US forces in Iraq. Iran took this action after its Revolutionary Guard General Qasim Sulemani was killed in a US air strike.
