For the first time, an American-Indian Doctor and his team performed a double lung transplant at Chicago Hospital on a patient, whose lungs were damaged by COVID-19. Northwestern Medicine reported about the transplant procedure on Thursday. This entire process was completed on the last Friday. He said that only a few coronavirus Survivors have been transplanted in China and Europe.
Ankit Bharat, MD, chief of thoracic surgery and surgical director of the Northwestern Medicine Lung Transplant Program has said, "A lung transplant was her only chance for survival."
10-hour Long Operation:
He said the Chicago patient is in her 20s and had been on a ventilator and heart-lung machine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for the past two months before her operation. Dr. Ankit Bharat told that the 10-hour long process of operation was extremely challenging because the corona infection had spread to her entire lung.

The doctor said that the female patient has been kept on a ventilator for now. He told that she is not cured until she is put on a ventilator. At present, his family can talk through video calls. The doctor said that the corona Survivor is likely to have a normal life.
