The issue of Amazon Prime’s web series ‘Tandav’ is hot in the country right now. From social media to politics, this series has boiled over. The issue is of hurting religious sentiments. This time, this web series is accused of insulting Lord Shiva and Rama. When feelings were hurt, there was protest. Criminal prosecutions have been filed against the producers and actors for the series.

BJP leaders are demanding that the series should be removed or it should be banned from Amazon Prime platform. At the same time, the Ministry of Information Broadcasting has also become active and meeting with the manufacturers is trying to find a solution to this dispute.
Meanwhile the makers have unconditionally apologized for hurting the sentiments. However, the opponents are not willing to accept less than banning the series. Currently, efforts are being made to find a middle ground. That means editing objectionable parts.
There has been a huge increase in cases in the recent past when court cases have been taken from filing police reports against any OTT content or web series that have been brought to the fore on allegations of messing with religious sentiments or faith.
Mirzapur 2
Right now the case on ‘Tandav’ is still going on and filing a case against ‘Mirzapur’ is still coming up. Mirzapur was released in October last year. The case is the same – religious sentiments hurt and a wrong image of a community. The report has been lodged at the Kotwali village police station in Mirzapur. A report by a local journalist, Arvind Chaturvedi, said that the series’ dialogues are hurting religious, social and regional sensibilities. The complaint also alleges misrepresentation of Mirzapur.

Earlier, High Court advocate Vijay Kumar Dwivedi in Prayagraj raised the demand for action against the producer-director of this web series. He wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Central Film Certification Board President Prasoon Joshi, demanding immediate ban on the web series.
Ashram
Prakash Jha’s web series ‘Ashram’, which was released in November last year appeared on MX Player. This fictional story of the exploits of a hypocritical religious leader led to accusations of insulting the saints and the Sanatan Ashram culture. The process of filing a police report against the manufacturers in the case is still going on.

The last news came from the Luni district of Jodhpur, where a lawsuit has been filed in the SAC-ST Act. Complainant DR Meghwa said that the community has been insulted in the first episode. The series promotes discrimination. Earlier in December 2020, Jodhpur court sent notice to Bobby Deol and Prakash Jha in another case.

There is a scene in Mira Nair’s web series ‘A Suitable Boy’ released on Netflix, in which the film’s main character is shown kissing in the temple premises. After which ‘boycott Netflix’ was trending on social media. Let us tell you that a person named Gaurav Tiwari had lodged an FIR in Rewa on this scene.
Patal Lok

Many people have filed cases alleging that they have hurt the sentiments of the community on the web series ‘Patal Lok’ on Amazon Prime Video, made under the banner of Anushka Sharma’s production house. There were also attempts to politicize the matter. Jaideep Ahlawat played the lead character in the series and he had also received an award for the role in the past.
Sacred Games 2

The second season of Netflix’s much talked series was ‘Sacred Games’, was also fierce and there was a lot of controversy. BJP leader and Delhi-based MLA Manjinder S. Sirsa, through social media, objected to the scene of the series which featured Saif Ali Khan’s character being severely fired. The report was also filed against Anurag Kashyap.
