Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Decides to Keep Pakistan in ‘Grey List’

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) has said that Pakistan has failed to stop funding of organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Considering this, FATF has decided that Pakistan will remain in the gray list. Let us tell you that FATF is an organization tracking global terrorism financing.

Earlier on Wednesday, a US report states that Pakistan still remained a safe place for terrorists. According to the report, Pakistan has taken very minor steps pretending to stop funding of terrorists. It says that Pakistan is avoiding to carry out major attacks in India after the Pulwama attack.

Pakistan takes action to show off: US report

The annual report on terrorism has been released by the US State Department. It said that Pakistan had taken some steps on the plan of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), but did not fulfill all the promises. Pakistan has taken minor action against some terrorist groups, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed. Pakistan still remains the stand of regional terrorists.

No action taken on the big terrorists:

Pakistan did not take any action against other terrorists like Jaish-e-Mohammed's leader Masood Azhar and 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind Sajid Mir. The UN has also declared Masood a terrorist. In Pakistan, there are terrorist organizations like Afghan Taliban targeting Afghanistan, Haqqani network and Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed targeting India. These terrorist organizations run their own networks from here.

No action taken on FATF's action plan:

In June 2018, FATF put Pakistan in the gray list. Along with this, Pakistan was given an action plan to stop the funding of terrorists. Action plan was to be worked out by September 2019. When the FATF reviewed again in October 2019, many serious flaws were revealed. The FATF gave further time until February 2020, warning to be blacklisted.

Things getting worse in Afghanistan:

Pakistan also did not contribute to Afghanistan's peace process. Pakistan is the refuge of the Haqqani network and the Afghan Taliban who attack Afghanistan.
