National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah met his son Omar Abdullah, who was detained for the past seven months, in Srinagar sub-jail. During this, both the leaders appeared emotional. Former Chief Minister Farooq reached his nearest residence from his residence on Friday after his detention under the Public Security Act (PSA), where his son and former state chief minister Omar Abdullah has been under house arrest since February 5 under the PSA.

During this time the two leaders embraced each other. Officials said Farooq had requested the Jammu and Kashmir administration to meet his son after seven months, which was accepted by the administration. Officials said the two met for about an hour. It is to be noted that on August 5 last year, the Central Government withdrew special status from the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state.

Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and another Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti were taken into custody after the special status was withdrawn from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. On September 15, a case was filed against Farooq under the PSA while the precautionary custody of his son Omar ended on February 5 but was extended for six months just hours before that.
