South Africa's batsman Faf Du Plessis has decided to step down from his role as captain of the South Africa cricket team. Faf Du Plessis has resigned as captain of all three formats of South Africa (Test, ODI, and T20). The South Africa Cricket Board itself has confirmed this. Cricket South Africa (CSA), the Cricket Board of South Africa, wrote on its official Twitter handle, "Faf Du Plessis has announced that he is stepping down from his role as captain of the Proteas' Test and T20 teams effective immediately." CSA further Wrote, "35-year-old Faf Du Plessis has stated that he is resigning from the captaincy of the team to give a chance to the new generation players and captains. Quinton De Kock is a good captain."

However, Faf Du Plessis has further stated that he wants to help the team as a batsman and senior player and focus on the same. He will continue to advise the new leadership group and will be a part of team planning. He said, "When I took over the captaincy, I performed as well as most importantly the commitment to serve the team."

Du Plessis has said, "It is the highest honor for me to lead my country's team. South African cricket has entered a new phase.
