Heavy Snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Orange Alert Issued

For the next 48 hours (13-14 December) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the Meteorological Center has issued an Orange Alert. Administration has also been instructed to make all necessary arrangements in the snow-prone areas. Meanwhile, snowfall started in the hill areas on Wednesday. Due to this, the Mughal road connecting Srinagar-Leh National Highway and Poonch-Rajori with Shopian was closed for vehicles. On Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, only vehicles coming from Kashmir were passed in the morning.

All airline companies controlled by Srinagar International Airport are suffering heavy losses due to the dense fog. There has been a loss of about 50 crore in the last five days. Since December 6, normal life has been affected due to the dense fog in the valley including Srinagar. Due to this all flights are also being canceled. According to sources, two flights of Vistara from Srinagar to Delhi are handled daily with 180 passengers. Its fare for a passenger from Srinagar to Delhi is 8000. Vistara has lost about 15 crore in the last 5 days. A Vistara official said that even though we have saved Rs 1500 per passenger oil cost, we have suffered a lot in booking. He said that almost all the bookings for the coming days are canceled as the flights are being rescheduled.

Air Asia, which has five flights from Srinagar airport, has suffered a loss of around 6 crore. At the same time, Indigo lost 9 crore, while Go Air and SpiceJet lost 5.5 crore. An airport management official said that the reason for this is low visibility. Visibility is 100 meters while landing requires 1200 meters. So now we pray that there is rain or snowfall that causes the thick fog to come off and flights are normal once again. Significantly, according to the Meteorological Department, such dense fog has been seen for the first time since 2014. According to the data available with the department, similar dense fog had occurred in the year 2008 for about 4 days earlier, but after that it has been seen now.
