Aditya Thakeray Helps save 400-Years-Old Tree, Tiger Corridor

Tourism and Environment Minister of Maharashtra Aditya Thakeray helps save a 4-centuries old tree and a tiger corridor of Maharashtra.

Looking at sustain campaigns of villagers and requested to Tourism and Environment Minister Adiyta Thakeray, the Centre has decided to not harm a 400-years old banyan tree and an important tiger corridor in Maharashta. This tree and corridor lays in way of various development projects. The officials on Saturday said that they will take care of these valuable things.

This statement came after Aditya Thakeray had written to Union Minister Nithin Gadkari, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and Union Coal Ministry.

 Aditya Thakeray wrote with two objectives:

Save a 400-years-old Banyan tree in Western Maharashtra from a highway project.

Save a Tiger Corridor from a Commercial Mining project.

The Union Coal Ministry had plans to auction the Bander coal mine in Tadoba Tiger Sanctuary. This would have damaged 1,200 hectacres of prime forest land. This damage includes tiger corridor which links reserves with Sanctuaries in Wardha and Amarawathi District.

Following the plea of Adyta Thakeray, Udhav Thakeray, Sanjay Rathod and others, the Centre said that the Bandra Coal Mine auction will be withdrawn as it falls in eco-sensitive zone. Union Ministry of Environment declared this on July 21.

A huge and wide spread banyan tree of over 400 sq. metres in Sangli district's Bhose village was in danger. The treat came as Solapur- Sangli-Kolhapur-Ratnagiri Expressway is going to have an expansion. The Bhose village's people and environmentalists protested by hugging the tree and asked help from Aditya Thakeray.

Aditya realizing the seriousness of the issue wrote to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on July 16. Following this letter, National Highway Authority of India has sent a team to visit the site. the team reached there on Wednesday and after analyzing and discussing the issue with people, they submitted their report.

After looking the reports, the NHAI officials come to conclusion that it is not necessary to cut down the tree, some branches will be trimmed though.

After these victories, Aditya took to Twitter to thank CM Udhav Thakeray and other members for their gesture which helped save a banyan tree and tiger corridor.
