It has been reported that Jason Schwartzman will play the new villain The Spot in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The film's big evil enemy has been revealed by Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse filmmakers Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson.
The film's adversary, The Spot, was revealed during an Annecy presentation in which 15 minutes of work-in-progress footage was shown for the first time in front of a public audience.
"For those who aren't canon junkies, The Spot is one of the most in-depth cuts in Spider-rogue Man's gallery. But he possesses a superpower that has piqued the interest of our whole team: his entire body is covered with interdimensional portals that can transport him anyplace he desires "Kemp, the co-director stated.
The villain, played by Schwartzman, will employ those portals as weapons against returning webslingers Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) while bringing in new Spider-Verse heroes like Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) and Jessica Drew (Issa Rae).
According to the producers, the villain will have a character design reminiscent of an unfinished sketch, with blue construction lines reminiscent of a comic book artist's rough drawing before the work is sent to an inker.
The design will vary during the film as the figure develops and evolves, taking on a more menacing shape as he learns to better employ his talents.
"We thought it would be incredibly fantastic if the portals felt like living ink splashed over the comic artist's painting. His basic power offered our team a limitless number of fascinating challenges and permutations "Before showing test animation film to the rapt and applauding audience, Kemp reminded them.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on June 2, 2023, in cinemas worldwide
