Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related respiratory disease. As a result, while sleeping, the breath continually stops and then resumes. The individual who has this sickness ceases breathing while sleeping and is completely unaware of it. Breathlessness in sleep can last from a few seconds to a minute. Obstructive sleep apnea is one of the different forms of sleep apnea.

When the muscles of the throat loosen while sleeping, air passage is obstructed. The patient snores as a result of this. This does not, however, imply that every snorer suffers from the condition. The upper airway of the respiratory tract is obstructed with this condition, preventing oxygen from passing properly. As a result, the patient's blood oxygen level begins to drop, and he or she eventually dies.

1. Obesity may be the cause of this issue.

2. There's a chance that this issue is inherited. That instance, if someone in the family has this condition, the individual may have to deal with it as well.

3. This problem can affect those who have issues with their kidneys or hearts.

4. A neuromuscular disorder occurs when the brain is unable to communicate messages to the airways and sleeping muscles, resulting in this problem.

5. Smokers are more likely to get diabetes.

When should you concern a doctor?

If you encounter any of the symptoms listed above, you should see your doctor right away. Snoring is common, but it should be taken seriously if it becomes severe and disturbs others' sleep. If you frequently wake up gasping, suddenly feel suffocated while sleeping, or your breathing stops while sleeping, see a doctor right once.

The treatment

The treatment strategy for sleep apnea includes Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (AUTO–CPAP), which is given through a face mask/nose mask, among other precautionary measures.

If there are any abnormal growths in the airways, such as tonsils or adenoids, surgery may be advised to remove the obstruction. If the patient is not ready to use these measures, a device called a mandibular advancement device may be used to move the lower jaw forward during sleep.

1. Exercising regularly.

2. Adding 30 minutes of exercise to the routine.

3. Walk in the morning and evening.

4. Keeping the weight under control.

5. Avoiding the use of intoxicants.

6. Avoid sleeping on your back.

7. Changing the sleeping position from time to time.
