Akshay Kumar starrer Bell Bottom has shown the courage to come to the theatres, in the Corona era when there is a ruckus of closure and recession. Even though theatres are open with only 50 percent of the audience, but this film has the power to attract cine-lovers. Its success will give courage to other producers to enter the hall as well.
After a failed film like Lucknow Central (2017), director Ranjit M. Tiwari's Bell Bottom sets up the story slowly here before the interval. In which the emotional bond of mother-son with the plane hijack and the love of husband and wife is seen slowly blossoming. The story moves sometimes in the present and sometimes in the past.
When five planes have been hijacked in seven years and every time neighbouring enemies land in the country, while the leaders negotiate a settlement with the terrorists, then it becomes necessary that once the talks are bypassed and retaliated.
In Bell Bottom, a plane carrying more than 200 passengers is hijacked and taken to Lahore. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has the same old way to talk to the hijackers as neighbours because the plane is standing on their land. She talked politely with them. It is clear that the PM also needs the courage to do something new. In order to break the old circle. In such a situation, the chief of RAW (Adil Hussain) tells PM that this time, we will play a new bet. From here the bell bottom changes its stance.
Meanwhile, after the plane hijacking, the politics of the political corridors and despite the Prime Minister being equipped with all the powers, his human concerns become evident. Here even though it is not the thrill that the audience expects from the film, but the director is able to keep it hooked. But the pace of the film changes when Anshul Malhotra, who leads a simple life and has a keen memory of English, Hindi, French, German, incarnates as RAW's flamboyant agent, codenamed: Bell Bottom (Akshay Kumar). The spark of excitement seems to be visible.
The story of this hijack includes the emotional end of Anshul's personal life along with the plane hijacking. Why has he come to RAW and why he has become an expert by studying the events of Hijack very deeply. The tweet comes in the story when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (Lara Dutta) tells Pakistani President Zia-ul-Haq that you guys should not talk to the terrorists-hijackers. We will see for ourselves what to do next.
Pakistan mediate on the last four hijacking occasions, is shocked and its intelligence agency ISI sends its special man Doddi (Jain Khan Durrani) to take over the hijacked plane. Here the dual character of the enemy country comes to the fore and the question arises whether Bell Bottle will be able to kill the four terrorist hijackers and save all the passengers safely? The answer to this question is found later in the film.
This film, written by Aseem Arora and Parvez Sheikh, has been brought on screen by Ranjit Tiwari in a tight manner. This 123-minute entertainment keeps the audience hooked for almost the entire time. The film has brought a big relief for 53-year-old Akshay Kumar as he was in great form in 2019 with Kesari, Mission Mangal, House Full 4 and Good Newwz. But in 2020, her Sooryavanshi could not be released due to Corona and Laksmmi Bomb came on OTT, had to face a lot of opposition and criticism. As a RAW agent in Bell Bottom, Akshay looks the fittest among the actors of his generation.
Vaani Kapoor, who wasted six precious years of her life in Yash Raj Films by doing only three films in six years, came out of that camp for the first time and got the benefit. Her role in the film may be small but she is beautiful and meaningful.
Huma Qureshi did not get much space and she does not impress much. Other than the RAW agents in Bell Bottom, Lara Dutta and Adil Hussain attract. It is difficult to recognize Lara in Indira Gandhi's get-up and she has also done a good job. This film opens the way for her long comeback.
At the same time, some great dialogues have come in the form of the team leader of RAW, part of brilliant actor Adil Hussain. Overall, Bollywood has brought a chance for cinema lovers to eat popcorn-samosas again by sitting in the Theaters. If you are 'missing' this experience for the last one and a half years, then you can buy tickets. Bell Bottom has also been released in 3D.
