Darlings, Alia Bhatt's next film, now has a trailer and a release date. Netflix released the teaser trailer for their latest Indian film, which stars Shefali Shah (Delhi Crime), Vijay Verma (Gully Boy), and Roshan Mathew, and is produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies and Alia Bhatt's Eternal Sunshine (Choked).
In addition, the world's largest subscription-based streaming service announced that Darlings would premiere on its platform worldwide on August 5. Darlings are the feature film debut of Jasmeet K. Reen, who had previously contributed screenplays to Force 2, Fanney Khan, and Pati Patni Aur Woh.
The first Darlings trailer, driven by a Bhatt voiceover, finds her character setting the stage for the film, which is billed as a dark comedy-drama that "explores the lives of a mother-daughter duo trying to find their place in Mumbai, seeking courage and love in extraordinary circumstances while fighting against all odds."
The aforementioned mother-daughter combo is played by Bhatt and Shah, with Verma and Mathew portraying their respective love partners. As you can see, the two women's partners are around the same age. The Darlings trailer does not overtly mention it, but the symptoms of distrust are obvious.
Darlings' cast also includes Rajesh Sharma (The Tashkent Files), Vijay Maurya (Gully Boy), Kiran Karmarkar (Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii), Pooja Swaroop (That Girl in Yellow Boots), and Santosh Juvekar, in addition to Bhatt, Shah, Verma, and Mathew (Ek Thi Begum). Bhatt, along with Red Chillies Entertainment's Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma, is a producer on the film under her business Eternal Sunshine Productions.
Reen directs the Netflix film from a screenplay she co-wrote with Parveez Sheikh (Queen, BellBottom). The Darlings talks are overseen by Maurya, Reen, and Sheikh. The soundtrack is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, while the original score is composed by Prashant Pillai (Wazir, Sadak 2). The lyrics for the Darlings songs are written by the famous Gulzar.
The film's cinematographer is Anil Mehta (Jersey, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar). The editor is Nitin Baid (Masaan, Gully Boy). The production designer is Garima Mathur (Attack, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar), the costume designer is Veera Kapur Ee (Pink, Sardar Udham), and the Darlings sound designer is Anirban Sengupta (Badla, Escape Live).
Darlings, a 134-minute film, will be available on Netflix in India and throughout the world on August 5. Before that, on July 15, Netflix India will release the Jitendra Kumar-led Jaadugar.
