Rajkumar Santoshi, the Bollywood director of super hit films like Andaz Apna Apna, Damini, Ghayal and Lajja, has recently been sentenced. Rajkumar Santoshi has been found guilty in two separate cases. Director Rajkumar Santoshi has been sentenced to one year and a 22.5 lakh fine in the case. The court also ordered him to pay the check amount within two months. If Rajkumar Santoshi fails to do so, he will be sentenced to one more year.
Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi had borrowed a huge amount for the business because of his good relations with the complainant Anil Jethani. In this regard, three separate checks were given to the complainant Anil Jethani for a total of 22.50 lakhs. However, all three checks bounced and thereafter the complainant, through his lawyer, served a legal notice to Rajkumar Santoshi. However, they did not get any response and as a result, two separate cases of Rs 17.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh were registered against director Rajkumar Santoshi in a Rajkot court under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
Both these cases were heard before the Rajkot Additional Chief Judicial Judge. Rajkumar Santoshi claimed that his blank checks have been misused while he has returned the money and no transaction is pending. The Rajkot court then called the bank officials for witnesses and they took the side of the complainant.
On not receiving a reply to the notice, a case was filed against Rajkumar Santoshi under section 138. Rajkumar Santoshi says that he is paying the compensation for being a celebrity. Rajkumar Santoshi said, 'I am paying the compensation for being a celebrity. We are easy targets. I have full faith in the judiciary. We will appeal the matter. I hope justice will be served'.
