Engineer wanted Refund of Rs 100 from Zomato, Duped by Rs 77000

New Delhi: A bizarre incident has come to light from Patna, the capital of Bihar, where a person had to get food from Zomato. An engineer from Patna ordered a 100 rupee meal from Zomato. However, he wanted the money back, but instead of returning 100 rupees, he lost his 77,000 rupees.

Vishnu from Patna ordered food through a food delivery app. When the delivery boy arrived with the food, Vishnu was dissatisfied with the quality of the food and asked him to take it back. The delivery boy then advised him to call Zomato Customer Care and ask Vishnu to search Zomato Customer Care on Google. He asked Vishnu to dial the first number found on Google search and follow the instructions.

Vishnu did this, after which he received a call back from a man who described himself as a Zomato Customer Care Executive and said that Rs 10 would be deducted from his account to get a refund of Rs 100. The caller then sent a link to Vishnu to deposit Rs 10. Without thinking about the entire process, the engineer clicked on the link and deposited Rs 10.

Within few minutes of this transaction, 77,000 rupees were deducted from Vishnu's bank account through several transactions. The money was deducted through several Paytm transactions and 77,000 rupees disappeared within minutes. The incident occurred on 10 September and Vishnu has since been knocking on the doors of police, banks and various other forums, but has not been relieved.
