The All India Power Engineers Federation on Friday accused the Union government of trying to make a hasty decision on the Electricity (Amendment) Bill-2020 through video conferencing by the Union Energy Minister of all the provinces.

Energy ministers have objected to the agenda of the meeting. Federation President Shailendra Dubey said on Thursday that the Electricity (Amendment) Bill-2020 is the main topic which will be discussed in the meeting held on July 03 through video conferencing of the energy ministers of all the states of the country.

The meeting has a duration

The agenda of the meeting has a fixed time of 35 minutes to discuss this bill, which shows the intention of the central government to complete the formality of taking the opinion of the states on this bill without any serious deliberation. It wants to get it passed in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament.

The Chief Minister and Energy Minister of 11 provinces of the country have expressed strong reservations by sending a letter to the Prime Minister and Union Minister of Power in protest against the bill. At this meeting, tomorrow, the energy minister of each state needs at least 30 – 30 minutes to present his case, but all 30 provinces will be heard in just 35 minutes.

1.5 million electric workers and engineers will protest

It seems clear that the Central Government is completing the formalities by meeting and has prepared to pass the bill in Parliament due to the majority, which is completely unfair and undemocratic. The All India Power Engineers Federation has warned that if the bill is put in the Lok Sabha in haste without listening to consumers and power workers, the country's 1.5 million electric workers and engineers will strongly oppose it nationwide.
