Now only three days are left for voting for the first phase of the UP assembly elections 2022. All the parties have put their stars in the campaign field. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has taken a big step after the attack on the convoy of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and BJP's star campaigner Babita Phogat in Meerut. The commission has directed the state governments to provide security to the star campaigners.
The Election Commission directed the Chief Secretaries of all the states to provide adequate security to the star campaigners of political parties during the elections. The Election Commission said that they have come to know that star campaigners are facing security-related issues in five states which are going to polls. The commission has not mentioned any specific case in its letter.
The commission further said in the letter that the party concerned would give tour plans, route charts and other necessary information to the District Magistrate and the Chief Electoral Officer so that necessary security could be provided to their star campaigners. The letter states that the security arrangements of star campaigners will be monitored by a nodal officer at the state level and by a nodal officer at the district level. Nodal officers will be appointed by the respective State Governments or Union Territories.
