Partition of Bengal: The rivalry between Hindus and Muslims could be credited to this division of people on the basis of their religion done by the Britishers to establish their rule in India.
It was the time when George Curzon was the viceroy of India and he came up with the idea to divide the region of Bengal into two parts called East Bengal (capital as Dhaka)and West Bengal (capital as Calcutta).
His idea was to rule over the people by dividing them as the majority of East Bengal was Muslims.
When Indian nationalists realized this, they started revolting against partition. Surendranath Banerjee and Krishna Kumar Mitra were two big leaders who acknowledged the Indians through the newspapers like Bengali and Hitabadi.
Initially, the INC, which was not so popular, yet tried to support the revolt but tasted bitter slavery of the British and accepted their demands, resulting in the loss of people's faith in the INC.
This was the time when new leaders also emerged like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Sardar Ajit Singh in Pune, Bombay, and Punjab respectively.
The newly emerged leaders revolted against the Britishers by neglecting each and everything provided by the Britishers. Due to this new schools, colleges, and textile industries emerged the rich landlords.
People also burnt British clothes and started wearing Khadi, which later came to know as the Khadi movement.
The movement was surfacing throughout the nation and there were chances of its success. Nationalists were marching up with the national song "Vande Mataram", to fight the harsh laws of the Britishers.
In the end, due to internal disputes between the Moderates and extremists, the movement gets suppressed and leaders like Tilak and Sardar Ajit Singh were arrested leaving no good leader to avenge the partition.
This is how the province of Pakistan was formed and came to know as East Pakistan.
