Anglo-Mysore War III: The 3rd war of the Anglo-Mysore series describes the battle of Mysore and the Britishers for the sake of control over Travancore.

With the defeat in the 2nd Anglo-Mysore war and the signing of the "Treaty of Mangalore, Tipu Sultan enraged himself with the fire of revenge for six years.

The lust for demolishing the British empire was increasing day by day in Tipu Sultan's heart which converted into the 3rd Anglo-Mysore war in 1790-1792.

Anglo-Mysore War III: Invasion of Cochin

After all these years waiting for the revenge, Tipu Sultan felt the need to expand his empire to take revenge on the Britishers.

He conquered the area of Cochin which was under the control of the British Raj.

After capturing the area of Cochin, Tipu Sultan decided to take over the region of Travancore to make it his own territory of control.

Reason for war - "Fortification of Travancore"

After king Dharma of Travancore get to know about Tipu Sultan's plan to attack his kingdom, he started fortification of his territory to avoid war.

During this fortification, some part of the wall fell into the territory of Cochin giving a reason to Tipu Sultan to initiate a war.

This was the time when William Medows was representing the Britishers in Travancore.

Once William Medows knew that the Mysore is trying to attack Travancore, he formed an alliance with Maratha, Nizam, and King Dharma to defeat the Mysore.

Anglo-Mysore War III: Strategy to defeat Mysore

General Medows had decided to attack Srirangapatna (the capital of Mysore). He along with Maratha, Nizam and King Dharma planned to capture three territories namely Bangalore, Coimbatore and Srirangapatna respectively.

The plan got initiated and Banglore was already in their hands. Now the next destination was Coimbatore but at the last minute, General changed the plan and went to Coimbatore alone.

Here, the idea was to deviate Tipu Sultan from his capital to Coimbatore and once he came to Coimbatore, the other troops will attack the capital of Mysore.

On the 18th of March 1792, the plan got successful and Tipu Sultan was forced to leave the weapons on the ground and surrender himself in front of the Britishers.

Anglo-Mysore War III: Horrible impact of war

The end result of the war was so horrible that there was nothing left in the great dynasty of Mysore. Britishers took most of the Mysore from Tipu Sultan and forced him to sign the "Treaty of Srirangpatna".

Apart from this, the Britishers asked for Rupees 3 crore as compensation for which they took Tipu Sultan's sons as captives and this is how the 3rd war of the Anglo-Mysore series ended up with the victory of the Britishers.
