ECB will Suffer a Loss of 300 Million Pounds If There’s No Cricket in Coming Season: ECB Chief Tom Harrison

Due to coronavirus outbreak, many tournaments have been canceled or postponed worldwide, many cricket boards of the world have suffered a lot and if the situation remains the same then more events can be postponed or canceled in the coming time. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) may also have to bear the loss of millions of pounds due to this epidemic.

ECB chief Tom Harrison said that if cricket matches are not played in the coming season due to the Corona epidemic, we could suffer a loss of more than £ 300 million, or about Rs 2835 crore. Harrison is among the ECB employees who are cutting their salary to overcome the crisis. According to the report, England's centrally contracted cricketers may reject the ECB's proposal to cut the salary by 20 percent.

The England Cricket Board is making such plans to overcome the challenges. The ECB on Tuesday announced a package of 60 million pounds to deal with the current crisis. In a letter sent to the Association of Professional Cricketers (PCA) chief Tony Iris, Harrison has expressed concern about the long-term effects of the epidemic.

In this letter, Harrison claimed that he is cutting his salary by 25 percent for at least three coming months. Harrison wrote, 'This epidemic is the biggest challenge for sports right now, although its full impact on cricket is not yet known it is clear that it will be extremely important. The deposit capital of the ECB was 73.3 million pounds in 2016-17, which was reduced to 10 million pounds in 2018-19. In such a situation, if the cricket is not played in this season, the ECB's financial fund could be adversely affected.
