After the government's decision to implement the Economical Weaker Section (EWS) quota (Upper cast quota) in all Central Universities, Delhi University will increase 10% seats this year. This quota will be for general category students who are financially vulnerable.

EWS quota in DU race is bringing some relief. This time 10% of seats will increase in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Accordingly, there will be UG Admission on seats around 61500 and PG at 10500. There will be about four thousand seats, including sports, ECA, and other rest quotas.

After the government's decision to implement the Economical Weaker Section (EWS) quota (Upper cast quota) in all Central Universities, Delhi University will increase 10% seats this year. This quota will be for general category students who are financially vulnerable. DU will apply EWS quota in two phases. According to DU's Deputy Registrar-Academic, in order to implement 10% EWS quota, 25% of seats will be increased under the guidelines. DU has decided that 25% of seats will be extended in two phases. 10% seats in the Academic Session 2019-20 and 15% seats will be increased in its next session 2020-21.

This year, the University will increase 10% of the total seats sanctioned in 2018-19. There will be 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 27% for OBC seats. Delhi University Dean – Student Welfare Dr. Rajeev Gupta points out that according to the government's notification, the seats for general category will be equal to last year's approved seats. Both the approved seats will be reduced from the total seats and these seats will be filled under the EWS quota. After 10% increase, 10 seats will increase in every 100 seats i.e. 110 seats. Of these 50 will be for General, 17 SC, 8 ST, 30 OBC, and 5 EWS category.

If the student takes admission in general category, he will not be able to transfer to the EWS category for the sake of a favorite college or course. Dr. Gupta explains that for students to apply in the EWS category, the deposit certificate issued by DM will be submitted. Income limit should be less than 8 lakh rupees annually. If the student is elected in the General category, then he can not apply for this category.
