Aviation regulator DGCA on Monday asked airlines to keep vacant seats in flights as far as possible in view of the outbreak of Corona virus. The DGCA said in its order that additional precautionary equipment should be provided if the number of passengers is more and a passenger are allotted a middle seat.
The order said that the passengers should also be provided with a body covering gown, which conforms to the standards of the Ministry of Textiles. Along with this, there has also been talk of giving mask and face shield, whereas The Supreme Court on 25 May, while hearing a plea to keep vacant seats in flights or not, said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to change its norms in the interest of health and safety of passengers .
The DGCA in its order on Monday cited the Supreme Court's comment, stating, "Aviation companies will allocate seats in such a way that the seats between two passengers are kept vacant if the passenger load and the capacity of the seats allow." However, the DGCA said that members of the same family may be allowed to sit together. The order states that the airlines will provide a safety kit to each passenger, this will include a surgical mask, a face shield, a sufficient amount of sanitizer.
