The lockdown to prevent the spread of coronaviruses has greatly affected the sales of carmakers across the country.  Meanwhile, the country's number 1 carmaker Maruti Suzuki has reported the May 2020 sales.  The company has sold 13865 units in the last month i.e. May 2020, which is a big decline year after year.  The company registered a decline of 88.95 per cent as compared to 1,25,552 units sold in the month of May last year.

In this month, the company has also exported 4651 units from Mundra and Mumbai ports.  Maruti's total sales (including exports) stood at 18,539 units in May 2020, which is 86.23 per cent lower than the 1,34,643 units sold in May 2019.  These sales figures also include 23 units of the Glanza hatchback sold to Toyota.

The nationwide lockdown led to the closure of sales operations from April 2020 and there were no sales in the domestic market in April.  Even in March 2020, sales of Maruti Suzuki declined by 83 percent with 83,792 units.  Maruti Suzuki resumed production at the Manesar plant from May 12 and the Gurugram plant from May 18, after the government gave relief to the lockdown.  From May 25 onwards, Suzuki Motor Gujarat
