Delhi Implements Colour-Coded Alert Levels to Fight Covid 3rd Wave

In order to deal with the possible third wave, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority on Sunday implemented a graded action plan to tackle any surge in cases in the coming days. Under this, separate guidelines for four levels of severity that are marked by different colour codes, will come into effect after a formal order by the Delhi government.

During this, four types of alerts based on colors will work – Level-1 (Yellow), Level – 2 (Amber), Level -3 (Orange) and Level – 4 (Red). Meanwhile, there will be a complete lockdown in Delhi when the red alert is issued.

Here's how colour coded alerts will work:

Level -1 (Yellow):

Level 1 alert will come into force if the national capital reports a positivity rate of over 0.5 per cent for two consecutive days or reports 1,500 new cases in a week or 500 oxygen beds are occupied in a week.

  • Shops will allow to operate between 10 am and 8 pm on an odd-even basis.
  • Metro services allows at 50 per cent passenger capacity.
  • Buses can also function at 50 per cent capacity for passengers.
  • A night curfew will come into force between 10 pm and 5 am.
  • Restaurants would be allowed to host guests up to 50 per cent capacity from 8 am to 10 pm.
  • Bars can allows to open between noon and 10 pm, also at 50 per cent capacity.

Level -2 (Amber):

Meanwhile, Level -2 alert will be issued if Delhi reports a positivity rate of over 1 per cent for two consecutive days or reports 3,500 new cases in a week or 700 oxygen beds remained occupied within a week.

  • Weekend curfew will come into force besides the night curfew.
  • Shops to remain open between 10 am and 6 pm on an odd-even basis.
  • Number of passengers in Metro rail would be capped at 33 per cent of capacity.
  • Buses to operate at 50 per cent capacity for groups of passengers.
  • Hotels will be allowed to operate.

Level 3 (Orange):

An orange alert will come into force when the state records a positivity rate of over 2 per cent for two days in a row or reports 9,000 new cases in a week. Over 1,000 oxygen beds occupied.

  • All shops would remain shut.
  • No Metro rail services in the state.
  • Buses will be allowed to operate at 50 per cent capacity.
  • Construction activities will be allowed only if labourers stay at the site.
  • Night curfew and weekend curfew will continue.

Level – 4 (Red):

Red Alert will be declared if Delhi reports a positivity rate of over 5 per cent for two consecutive days. Over 16,000 cases reported over a week or 3,000 oxygen beds are occupied in a week. Meanwhile, all the curbs imposed under orange alert will stay in force and the city will be placed under complete curfew.
