Preparations for the assembly elections in Delhi have been completed. In a meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora on Thursday, during a review of preparations for the Delhi Assembly elections, the Delhi Police told the Commission that the law and order in Delhi is completely under control. Explain that there were violent demonstrations in the capital against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Nodal officers of Delhi Police present at the meeting informed the Commission about making additional arrangements for creating a law and order system in sensitive areas for security. Under the election rules, the commission is required to return the schools used as polling stations to the school management four days before the exam date.

Delhi Assembly elections may be held before February 11 in view of board examinations. According to the statement issued by the Commission regarding the meeting, besides Arora, senior officials of Delhi Election Commission, Delhi Police and local bodies were present along with Election Commissioners Ashok Lavasa and Sushil Chandra, Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Dr. Ranveer Singh.

Voter list, EVM information

According to the statement, Dr. Singh presented a detailed report of the work done so far for the preparations for the assembly elections. He informed about other works including finalization of voter lists, availability of EVMs and voter registration campaign. He also informed about the status of voter awareness campaign being conducted to raise the level of voting.

In-depth discussion on security system

The Commission held a separate meeting with Delhi Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of Home Department and Amulya Patnaik with Delhi Police Commissioner to review the preparations for the election. The Commission has asked Delhi Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Home) and Commissioner of Police to coordinate with all the departments and other agencies of the Government of Delhi to ensure overall monitoring of election preparations for organized peaceful elections.

The main contest in the Delhi Assembly is between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress and BJP. In 2015, AAP performed 67, winning 67 out of the total 70 assembly seats. All the parties have come into election mode and are ready. AAP released a report card of the functioning of its government two days ago and said that it has done historical work on the historic mandate.
