Delhi: Bikes and Scooters cause upto 24% Pollution

Bikes and scooters are the cause of 24 percent pollution in Delhi. Safar has made this claim. Even in his previous study, Safar had attributed the 41 percent pollution in Delhi to the transport. According to Safar report, there is also 14 percent pollution due to bikes and 10 percent due to scooters. Apart from this, trucks and buses account for 20-20 percent of this pollution. Autos and cars are also polluting Delhi.

According to Safar's project director Gufran Baig, due to less pollution due to scooters and bikes in Delhi, they have less maintenance. He said that the way restrictions have been imposed on trucks, the same should be done in this segment. He said that it is generally believed that bike-scooters run on petrol and cause less pollution. In this study, it has also been told that since 2015, the number of PM2.5 is decreasing in the capital annually. However, it still exceeds the set standards. In 2010, PM 2.5 averaged 111, which has been 101 in 2018, while in 2019 it has been 92 as of November. Well it should be up to 40, but it is still double.

Travel study has claimed that in the whole year, Delhi gets only 23 percent days (about 84 days) of normal level air. At the same time, people of Delhi get a satisfactory level of air for only 51 days. 38 percent of the day received very poor and 1 percent of the day with severe level of wind. According to the travel, if only four months of winter are talked about, then the people of Delhi get clean air only on 4 percent days.
