MiG 27 Fighter Aircraft Crashed in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer

The MiG 27 jet was airborne on a training mission when it crashed at around 6:10 pm near the Pokhran range. The MiG 27 had taken off from the Jaisalmer Air Force Station. The pilot manages to eject safely.

An Indian Air Force Court of question will be set up to examine the MiG 27 crash in Jaisalmer. MiG 27 crashed in Eta village in Pokaran tehsil of Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district.

"A MIG 27 aircraft airborne from Jaisalmer crashed during a routine assignment today evening. The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry will examine the cause of the accident," Defence spokesperson Col Sombit Ghosh was quoted as saying by the news agency.

Last year, a MiG 27 aircraft had crashed in Jodhpur, also in Rajasthan.

The MiG-27 jet is a Soviet Union-designed fighter aircraft and is amongst the number of fighter jets that the Indian Air Force operates. The Indian Air Force also operates the MiG 21 and the MiG 29.

The other fighter jets in the Indian Air Force's hanger include the Indian Tejas, the French Mirage, the Russian Sukhkoi, and the British Jaguar. The Indian Air Force is set to get any more fighter jet soon — the French Rafale.
