Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has been appointed as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force and will take charge on September 30. He will succeed Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari (PVSM, AVSM, VM, ADC), who is set to retire on the same date.

A graduate of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, Air Marshal Singh was commissioned into the Indian Air Force on December 21, 1984. He is also a qualified flying instructor.

Air Marshal AP Singh has served as an experimental test pilot in the Indian Air Force and has more than 5,000 hours of flying experience on various fixed-wing and rotary aircraft.

Last year, in February, he took over as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff. Throughout his career, he has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base.

As a test pilot, he led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow. He has also served as the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, overseeing the flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas.

Additionally, he has held key positions such as Air Defence Commander of the South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer of the Eastern Air Command.

Air Marshal AP Singh Has Been Honored with PVSM and AVSM

Before his current appointment, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command. He has been honored with the prestigious Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).

At the age of 59, Air Marshal AP Singh, the newly appointed Chief of the Indian Air Force, recently piloted the indigenous fighter aircraft, Tejas.

After joining the Indian Air Force, he received his training at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Telangana, and the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla. He is also an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, Tamil Nadu.
