Cyclone Yaas, which hit Odisha and West Bengal on May 26 morning, has weakened into a deep depression and will further weaken into a depression during the next 12 hours. According to an India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, the cyclonic storm lay over south Jharkhand currently. Due to the after-effects of the storm, three states — Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar —are likely to report heavy rainfall today. Meanwhile, Moderate to heavy rainfall is predicted in Bengal.
According to the latest information from the Meteorological Department, "The deep depression lay centred at 5.30 of May 27th over south Jharkhand and neighbourhood and is likely to move nearly northwards and weaken gradually into deep depression during next six hours."
Cyclone 'Yaas' caused devastation in the Odisha-Bengal border areas on Wednesday. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of thunderstorm and moderate rain in parts of Kolkata, East and West Medinipur districts even today.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, "Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed 30-40 kmph and light to moderate rainfall likely to affect over some parts of Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Murshidabad districs of West Bengal during next 1-3 hrs from 8:30 hrs today."
7 Indian Navy teams from Visakhapatnam, comprising 2 Diving and 5 Flood Relief Teams are undertaking relief operations at Digha, Fraserganj and Diamond Harbour in West Bengal. For Bihar, the IMD has predicted mild to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall. And extremely heavy falls at the coastal location on Thursday.
