Both cricket and Bollywood have equal craze in the Indian audience. If the film is on cricket and it also has super stars, then it can be a Deadly Combination. The film Team 83, made on the historic victory of the Indian team at Lord's ground in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, is one such Deadly Combination.

Director Kabir Khan's team 83 is one of this year's most awaited films. The producers of the film and the rest of the industry also believe that the film can prove to be a champion in box office games, but there is no confirmation about its release date. The film is already ready in 2020, it was to be released only last year, but was postponed due to Corona.

The film's release date was first fixed on 10 April 2020. After that, there were many dates from 15 August 2020 to 26 January 2021. In February this year, it was announced that the film would be released on June 4, 2021, but now it does not even seem possible.

Producer and entrepreneur Vishnuvardhan Induri of Film 83, in a conversation, told Dainik Bhaskar that the film will not be released on OTT. Late release of this film in theaters and multiplexes will not affect the film business, rather we are expecting more business, because wherever theaters were open and security was created in the world, the films did more business than expected. is.

Why did the film expect box office success?

  1. The 1983 victory in Crazy India for cricket was the biggest proud moment for the entire country.
  2. In India, TV was almost non-existent in 83, with radio commentary only people were able to get match updates. In such a situation, the recapture of those moments of 83 will be worth watching.
  3. Ranveer and Deepika are the top star couple. People like to see these two together.
  4. The appeal of a Hindi film is usually in a limit in South and North East, but cricket and that too 83 World Cup Vijay story will have appeal across India. Apart from Hindi, the film is also being released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

Why not the film's direct release on OTT?

The makers have kept this film on hold for the last one year, now if it is released on OTT then the wait for the last full year will be wasted. Enjoying a big story, big stars and multistarrer film is more on the big screen.
For a big-budget film, the digital release does not have the same amount of revenue as a digital release.
India is not yet a matured market for such a big budget OTT release. There is a lot of danger of piracy.
Digital streaming rights to the film have been bought by Netflix, but will have to wait for the first theater release.
The multiplex association has decided that there should be a gap of at least four weeks between theatrical release of the film and digital streaming. If the film comes to OTT in less time then multiplex associations will not release this film.

Expected to earn 300 crores from this film

The budget of this film is 125 crores. This film, if released on a large scale in the theater, has an income of at least 300 crores, according to trade experts. Trade people believe that if marketed properly, this film can also earn a lot of money in overseas, because it is on a historical event of cricket. In such a country, where cricket is a popular game in countries like UK, Australia, New Zealand, the film can also get a local audience. Initially, theaters will not open even with 100% occupancy. With 50% occupancy, the film may take too long to reach a fixed income. Even if it is 100% occupancy, no one can say whether or not the theater will be full of fear of Corona.

Writing, Acting and Design, the first condition of success

Film Critic Mayank Shekhar told that after the Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the sports biopic race started here, so the sports film as a concept is a very used subject so far. The theme of each film is also similar to how an underdog player succeeded. A film based on such a real-time story will appeal to the audience only if it is able to recreate such moments by combining good writing, strong performance and original production design.

In the past, sports-based films have also been made in the country. Films like Mary Kom, Saina or MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and the biggest difference in 83 is that all those films were biopic of an individual sports person, but 83 is based on the entire team and especially a sports event.

The first condition in casting was that actors should come to cricket

All the players in the 1983 World Cup world-winning Indian team are in the heart of the Indian public. Therefore, the biggest challenge of this film was casting. In the film, Associate Casting Director Vaibhav Vishant told the sources that usually for casting we only have to see the acting criterion, but for this film it was also seen that he knows to play cricket. Like Chirag Patil playing the role of Sandeep Patil, himself has been a cricketer.

Only Ranveer and Deepika is their in Big Star cast

The story of 83 revolves around former captain Kapil Dev. All-rounder Kapil Dev believed in himself and the team that India could become world champions in cricket. Director Kabir Khan believes that the popular star helps in conveying the message of the film to the people. Hence Ranveer Singh has been chosen as Kapil. Deepika plays Kapil's wife Romi.

Did not want chocolate face

Vaibhav said that most of the cricketers in the original Indian team were from middle-class families. The casting also took care that there should be no chocolate face. It was also seen from which state he was from. For example, no South artist could be cast for Mohinder Amarnath.

Kapil's daughter assistant director

The special thing about this film is that Kapil Dev's daughter Amia Dev is working as an assistant director in this film. Amia is currently 25 years old. Amia was born 13 years after India won the World Cup.

His son in the role of Malcolm Marshall

India won the West Indies by 43 runs in the 1983 World Cup final. In this match, Malcolm Marshall took two wickets for West Indies. Malcolm Marshall is played by his own son Mali Marshall in the film.

Ranveer and Deepika stayed at Kapil's house

The most important character in the film is of Kapil, so Ranveer Singh and Deepika stayed at Kapil's house for a few days and learned their conversation, laughing-ways and everything.

Kirti said – I used to get a phone often while shooting

Cricketer-turned-politician Kirti Azad told to the sources that Dinkar Sharma, who was playing his role, spent 3–3 hours a day with him for 20 days. Not only did he learnt all the ways of speaking, laughing, anger, eating and drinking, but he also recorded them. Also, while filming the scene, where the crew had trouble, they called me.

Azad says that although it has been a long time since 1983, it is no longer remains the same to walk, laugh and get angry, everything changes, but the stripes of the lion remain the same, they never change. Even after all these years, all the cricketers were able to train the actors playing their characters.

The original team members trained in Dharamshala

All the performers have practiced hard at the HPCA Cricket Grounds in Mumbai and Dharamshala. In Dharamshala, Kapil Dev, Balvinder Sandhu, Yashpal Sharma and Mohinder Amarnath trained the film actors.

Sanjay Sharma, media in-charge of HPCA (Dharamshala Cricket Stadium), told the sources that three years ago the actors of the film 83 and the players of the 83 World Cup team came to Dharamshala Stadium. Everyone stayed here for about 2 weeks.

Apart from taking training from the players themselves, learn the action and gestures of all the players by watching old videos. Videography was also done during personal training with the players, so that the artists could later watch it.

For the first time such a long shoot at Lord's

Film producer Vishnuvardhan Induri says that 83 is the first film to be shot at Lord's Stadium, England. 70 per cent of the film is shot in the UK. Most of the crew members of the film are also from there.

Buy 80s clothes and shoes

A lot of hard work has been done to put that era on the screen. Kirti Azad told in the conversation that the film crew prepared a long list of the players from their favorite watch, shoes, clothes, favorite brand. The same kind of things were bought or designed. Out of that, the stuff that is at the players' house was seen, its photography and videography were done.

Two years of research: so as not to mess with reality

According to producer Induri, we hired cricket consultants across the board to avoid any mess with the film's seriousness, facts and originality. Our team researched the cricket archive for several months. Kabir Khan's team went and met every player. The research work of this film took a full two years.

Deepika Padukone is also the producer of the film

Vishnuvardhan Induri, a lead producer of the film 83, has also produced two biopic before this. Jr. NTR and Thalaivi. However, Thalaivi is yet to release. Induri is the kind of producer and entrepreneur who everyone in the film industry wants to be friends with. Other producers of 83 also include Deepika Padukone herself and Sajid Nadiadwala, a leading producer of the industry. These producers can wait a long time for the release of this film.
