Serum Institute of India (SII) has achieved a new milestone in the production of Covishield. Amidst the fears of a third wave of corona in the country, the company has given new energy to the hopes of the people by making 11 crore doses of Covishield in July.

According to the NDTV report quoting serum sources, the company had set a target of manufacturing 10 to 11 crore vaccine doses in July, which has been completed. CovaShield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin have an important role in the ongoing vaccination process in the country.

According to sources, apart from Covishield, the Serum Institute is currently focusing on the rollout of the Kovovax (Novavax) vaccine, which is yet to get approval for emergency use. With this, the company is also going to start production of Russia's Sputnik-V from September.

SII to make 300 million doses of Sputnik every year

Earlier, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev told that SII will start production of Sputnik-V from September. Every year 30 crore doses will be prepared here. Some other manufacturers are also ready to produce this vaccine in India.

Vaccine shortage in Delhi Maharashtra

However, Delhi and Maharashtra are among the states where vaccine shortage is being seen these days. After taking over the entire vaccination process since June 21, these two states have put forth the matter of vaccine shortage. Meanwhile, the vaccination centers in Delhi were closed on Tuesday as the stock of CoveShield here was exhausted.

Drop-in average vaccinations

There has been a decline in the average vaccination across the country since June 21. Monday's official figures also point to this clearly. According to the data available on the Cowin platform, an average of 61.14 lakh corona vaccine doses were given daily between 21-27 June in the country. This figure came down to 41.92 lakh daily in the week after June 28. At the same time, between July 5 and 11, this figure came down to 34.32 lakh doses.

Government hopes – Vaccination of the entire 18+ population by December

However, the central government has expressed hope of achieving the target of vaccination of people above 18 years of age by December. The government says that the supply of vaccines will increase to 16-18 crores in August. At the same time, in September, he will have more than 30 crore doses.
