Mumbai Police, FDA Recovers 2,200 Vials of Remdesivir in Raids

In a joint operation, Mumbai Police and Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) teams raided two locations on Monday and recovered 2,200 vials of Remdesivir. Acting on specific information about the storage of stocks of Remdesivir by certain exporters, teams from Mumbai Police and team FDA recovered 2,000 at one exporter's location in Marol, Andheri East, which belongs to a pharmaceutical company and 200 vials of Remdesivir recovered at another exporter's location in New Marine Lines.

The Mumbai Police PRO said that these recovered vials of Remdesivir were taken into possession by the FDA for use and distribution in hospitals. "These 2,200 Remdesivir vials were produced for export but were kept stocked by the exporters as there is a ban on the export of Remdesivir. FDA officials are following due procedure to make these vials available to hospitals," it said.

Over 2.5 lakh cases reported in India: 

Several parts of the country, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu have put lockdowns and similar restrictions in place to control the spread of the coronavirus. Last year when the nationwide lockdown was imposed migrants left for their hometowns on their bicycle or on foot because there was no availability of cars and trains for a long time.

This time, they do not want to take the chances and have started going back to their native places. India is currently witnessing a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The country has reported over 2,59,170 fresh infections in the last 24 hours. According to the Health Ministry, there are currently 20,31,977 active cases in the country.

Maharashtra: 58,924 cases reported

On Tuesday, the state reported 58,924 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 52,412 patients recovered and 351 died. So far, 38.98 lakh people affected by the epidemic in the state. Of these, 31.59 lakh people have recovered, while 60,824 have died. Currently, there are about 6.76 lakh people, who are undergoing treatment.
