Delhi Reported around 24,000 COVID-19 Cases in 24 hours: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi has reported around 24,000 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and there is a shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

Delhi has reported around 24,000 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and there is a shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday. This is the highest single-day cases in the national capital. Delhi had reported 19,486 new coronavirus cases and 141 deaths on Friday.

Kejriwal said Delhi has a limited number of ICU beds and oxygen and ICU beds are decreasing very sharply. He said COVID-19 cases were rising sharply and the government will take necessary steps to prevent spread of the virus.

Kejriwal spoke to Union Health Minister for increasing availability of beds:

The Chief Minister said he has spoken to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for increasing availability of beds and increasing oxygen supply. He added, "I hope that we add 6,000 beds in two or three days. No one knows when the peak will come. The central government gave 4,100 beds in November but this time only 1,800 beds have been given. I requested Dr Harsh Vardhan to reserve 50 percent beds for COVID-19 patients."

Over 2.34 cases reported in India:

India reported its highest-ever single-day spike of coronavirus cases with over 2.34 lakh new cases and more than 1,300 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry on Saturday. In the last 24 hours, 1,341 COVID-related deaths were reported in the country taking the death toll to 1,75,649. As many as 2,34,692 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in India in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of cases has gone up to 1,45,26,609. The active number of cases stands at 16,79,740.

Nearly 12 crores vaccinations so far:

In the last 24 hours, 1,23,354 people recovered from the disease. With this, the total recoveries reached 1,26,71,220. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 14,95,397 samples tested on Friday. And, as many as 26,49,72,022 samples have been tested across the country till April 16. Meanwhile, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 11,99,37,641 till today.
