Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, 187,368,063 cases have been reported so far. Of these, 171,328,746 people have recovered, while 4,045,084 people have died.

Sputnik V provides 90% protection against delta variant: Russian scientist

Viral vector and mRNA vaccines, including Russia's Sputnik V provides enough protection against Delta Variant of COVID-19, said Russian Scientist Sergey Netesov on Saturday. Russian vaccine Sputnik V is up to 90 percent effective against the delta variant of the coronavirus. Meanwhile, Netesov currently serves as head of the laboratory of Novosibirsk State University and a relevant member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

Meanwhile, Netesov further said, "According to data from the UK, the US and other countries, mRNA and vector vaccines, including our Sputnik V, protect against it [the Delta variant], albeit to a lesser extent, but they do protect against it. They offered 95% protection against the initial strain and now they give 90% protection against the 'delta' variant."

Over 1,000 cases reported in South Korea for the third consecutive day:

More than 1,000 coronavirus cases were registered in South Korea for the third consecutive day. The government is now planning to impose restrictions in the country. Under strictness, the opening of night clubs and churches will be banned after 6 pm. Gathering of more than 3 people will remain banned.

Korea's Disease Control and Prevention Agency said that 1,378 new cases reported here on Saturday. Earlier, there were 1,275 cases on Thursday and 1,212 on Wednesday. Most of the cases of infection are reporting in urban areas including the capital Seoul, Busan, Ulsan.

More than 41,000 cases reported in India:

India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 41,506 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 3,08,37,222. With 895 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 4,08,040.

The country also witnessed 41,526 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,99,75,064. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 97.20%. On the other hand, India's mortality rate stands at 1.32 %.
