Coronavirus Worldwide: Confirmed Cases Surpasses 186.9 Million-Mark

Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, 186,934,289 cases have been reported so far. Of these, 170,969,283 people have recovered, while 4,037,267 people have died.

Over 1,000 cases reported in South Korea for the third consecutive day:

More than 1,000 coronavirus cases were registered in South Korea for the third consecutive day. The government is now planning to impose restrictions in the country. Under strictness, the opening of night clubs and churches will be banned after 6 pm. Gathering of more than 3 people will remain banned.

Korea's Disease Control and Prevention Agency said that 1,378 new cases reported here on Saturday. Earlier, there were 1,275 cases on Thursday and 1,212 on Wednesday. Most of the cases of infection are reporting in urban areas including the capital Seoul, Busan, Ulsan.

Sydney extends lockdown restrictions as delta outbreak spreads:

The Australian government on Wednesday extended lockdown restrictions in Sydney for another week. On June 26, a two-week lockdown imposed in the city. The restrictions were to be eased in the city on July 9, but now people will have to stay in their homes till July 16. A total of 27 new local cases of COVID-19 reported in NSW on Wednesday.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said, "This Delta strain is a game-changer, it's extremely transmissible. We don't want to be in a position where we are constantly having to move between lockdown, no lockdown, lockdown, no lockdown. We don't want to prolong the lockdown, we don't want to see Sydney or New South Wales going in and out of lockdown until we have the vast majority of our population vaccinated."

More than 42,000 cases reported in India:

India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 42,766 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 3,07,95,716. With 1,206 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 4,07,145.

The country also witnessed 45,254 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,99,33,538. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 97.20%. On the other hand, India's mortality rate stands at 1.32 %.
