
Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, 180,814,029 cases have been reported so far. Of these, 165,456,768 people have recovered, while 3,917,196 people have died.
The pace of vaccination against COVID-19 has increased in the countries of the European Union (EU). According to a joint report by Britain's research agency 'Our World in Data' and 'The Economist', about 0.8% of the population is being vaccinated against COVID-19 here every day.
The delta variant – first identified in India, could account for 90 percent of new COVID-19 cases in the European Union in the coming months, according to a report. The ECDC has said that the delta variant of COVID-19 will circulate extensively across Europe by August-end. The Delta variant is more transmissible than other circulating variants. We estimate that by the end of August it will represent 90 percent" of new cases in the EU."
India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 51,667 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 3,01,34,445. With 1,329 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 3,93,310.
The country also witnessed 64,527 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,91,28,267. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 96.66%. On the other hand, India's mortality rate stands at 1.31%.
