Russian Vaccine Sputnik Light gets Approval from DCGI for Emergency use in India

In the midst of the ongoing war against Coronavirus infection, India has got the ninth vaccine to fight it. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the use of Russian-made Single Dose Vaccine Sputnik Light for emergency use. Till now, vaccines that are administered in India, at least two doses are prescribed, while some people are also being given booster/precaution doses of the vaccine.

Mansukh Mandaviya informed about the approval of Sputnik Light vaccine

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday informed about the approval of a single dose Sputnik Light Vaccine by DCGI for emergency use through Twitter. He said, 'DCGI has given permission for emergency use of single-dose Sputnik Light Covid-19 Vaccine in India. This is the 9th vaccine being deployed in the country against Covid. This will give more strength to the collective effort of the country in fighting the pandemic.

It should be noted here that in the vaccine that is being administered to people across the country at this time in the war against Covid, experts have recommended two doses of all the vaccines. Even two doses of Russian Vaccine, Sputnik is also being given, which has already been approved by Drugs Controller General of India. But now DCGI has allowed single dose Sputnik Light for emergency use, only one dose of which will be applied.

Vaccination reduces the risk of death

This step of DCGI becomes even more important considering the important role of vaccination in the war against Covid. So far, it has been revealed in many scientific kinds of research that vaccination may not be very effective in preventing infection of Covid-19, but it can reduce the risk of deaths due to it.
