Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, 180,451,134 cases have been reported so far. Of these, 165,162,037 people have recovered, while 3,909,322 people have died.

Delta variant to account for 90% new covid cases in Europe by August-end: Report

The delta variant – first identified in India, could account for 90 percent of new COVID-19 cases in the European Union in the coming months, according to a report. The ECDC has said that the delta variant of COVID-19 will circulate extensively across Europe by August-end.

In a statement, Andrea Ammon, director of the ECDC said, "It is very likely that the Delta variant will circulate extensively during the summer, particularly among younger individuals that are not targeted for vaccination. The Delta variant is more transmissible than other circulating variants. We estimate that by the end of August it will represent 90 percent" of new cases in the EU."

New universal COVID-19 vaccine may help prevent future pandemics: US

The trial of this vaccine is currently being undergoing on rats. When this vaccine was tested on mice, the vaccine developed many such antibodies that can counter many spike proteins. This also included variants such as B.1.351 found in South Africa.

More than 54,000 cases reported in India:

India has been witnessing a gradual decrease in daily coronavirus cases. According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 54,069 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 3,00,82,778. With 1,321 deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll has increased to 3,91,981.

The country also witnessed 68,885 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,90,63,740. With this, the country's recovery rate has increased to 96.61%. On the other hand, India's mortality rate stands at 1.30%.
