Coronavirus pandemic continues wreaking havoc worldwide. According to worldometer.com, so far 159,665,632 have found infected. Of these, 137,378,593 people have been cured, while 3,319,567 people have died.

Meanwhile, 6,11,096 coronavirus cases with 10,586 deaths reported in the last 24 hours in the world. At the same time, the US reported 30,152 cases in the last 24 hours.

Indian COVID-19 Strain 'Variant of Concern': WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has described Covid-19 variant spreading in India as a variant of concern at the global level. It says that variant B.1.617, first found in India in October, looks more contagious and can spread easily.

According to Maria van Kerkhove, lead on Covid-19, "There is some available information to suggest increased transmissibility of the B.1.617. As such we are classifying this as a variant of concern at the global level. WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan has also said that the vaccine and investigation against the current variant are effective.

Over 3.29 lakh cases reported in India:

India reported 3,29,942 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,29,92,517, the Union Health Ministry reported on Monday. With 3,876 people succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours, the death toll has mounted to 2,49,992. Currently, there are 37,45,237 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The country also witnessed as many as 3,56,082 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 1,90,27,304. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 30,56,00,187 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to May 10. Of these 18,50,110 samples tested on Sunday. The total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered stand at over 17,27,10,066 crore, informed the health ministry.
