Six top chess players from India, including former world champion Vishwanathan Anand, collected funds of Rs 4.5 lakh for the PM Cares Fund from online exhibition matches. Apart from Anand, number two Vidit Gujarati, P Harikrishna, B Adhiban and women players Koneru Hampi and Dronavalli Harika also participated in these matches.
Rakesh Kulkarni, director of International Master and Chess.com, told that together six thousand dollars (about 4.5 lakhs) were collected from the competition of 20 boards. Viswanathan Anand, who was stranded in Germany due to travel restrictions, suggested these matches. On his initiative, other players also joined. Adhiban won 18 of their matches. He said that he is very happy to be associated with this event for the good initiative.
Harika said, 'It's a different experience because we are playing from our home. Also collecting money for good goals. The event was attended by players who had less than 2000 points of the Chess Dot Blitz or FIDE standard rating. They had the option to donate at the time of registration. '
