Corona: Relief For the Poor in Lock Down, Government Increased MNREGA Wages

The Narendra Modi government has increased the wages of workers of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) by Rs 20 in the wake of Corona virus epidemic. According to sources, the National Rural Development Ministry has released Rs 4,431 crore in the form of MNREGA salary and material arrears to the states and union territories this week. Till now the government used to give Rs 182 to the MNREGA laborers as daily wages, which has now increased to Rs 202.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday sent Rs 611 crore directly to the bank accounts of 27.5 lakh workers of the state due to the lockdown announced till April 14 across the country in view of the corona virus. UP CM Yogi gave this relief to the poor in a program organized under MNREGA scheme at 5 Kalidas Marg, in his official residence. Along with this, Yogi interacted with four workers of Bahraich, Varanasi, Sonbhadra and Deoria through video conferencing and also informed them about the plan.

Yogi said, 'Government of India is also taking action to provide them one kilo of pulses and Ujjwala scheme for three months free of cost to all families for three months. The state government has also arranged for free food grains for more than 80 lakh MNREGA workers. "

He said that this program is very important in benefiting 80 crore poor people from these schemes all over the country. The Chief Minister said that all the women beneficiaries who have accounts in Jan Dhan Yojana will get an additional amount of Rs 500 per month. Apart from this, in the old age, destitute women and disabled persons, the Government of India will provide one thousand rupees per month for three months.

Yogi said, 'During the last three years, Uttar Pradesh has achieved a major achievement in the creation of the Human Day in the MNREGA. A total of 15 crore 69 lakh 'Manav Diwas' were created in 2016-17, while in 2019-20, 24 crore 32 lakh 'Manav Diwas' have been made available for employment generation under MNREGA.

Significantly, the Corona virus outbreak in the country is not stopping. The number of infected people in the country has reached close to 1400 and 40 people have died. At the same time, more than 7 lakh people in the world are struggling with corona infection. At the same time, 37 thousand people have died.
