China came to a brief halt on Saturday when a three-minute silence was observed in the country under the leadership of President Xi Jinping in memory of patients and medical personnel killed by the corona virus. In fact, China celebrated National Mourning Day on Saturday with the death of ‘Whistleblower’ doctor Li, who lost his life in the fight against Corona virus, and other martyrs and 3,300 people in the country from this contagious disease. Xi and other Chinese leaders attended the National Mourning Day to pay tribute to the Corona virus martyrs and the dead. He had white flowers on his chest and paid tribute to the dead of Covid-19 in front of the national flag, which is considered the worst public health disaster in the history of modern China.
Sirens and car horns in the world’s most populous country halted people and traffic on the roads. People were seen crying on the streets in Beijing. During this time, the national flag was half-tilted in all Chinese embassies and consulates across the country and abroad and public entertainment activities were postponed across the country. Meanwhile, four people died and a new case of Covid-19 was reported on Friday in Hubei province, the hub of the corona virus.
38 Covid-19 patients were confirmed in the province with no symptoms. With this, the number of symptomatic cases has reached 729, indicating that the fight against this deadly infectious disease is not over. So far 67,803 cases have been confirmed in Hubei, of which 50,008 cases were registered in Wuhan. So far, 81,620 cases of Covid-19 have been reported on Chinese territory and 3,322 people have died.
14 activists, including Whistleblower Dr. Li Wenliang in central Hubei province of China, were recognized as martyrs for their lives in the battle with Covid-19. The first group of martyrs consists of 12 doctors, a police officer and community activist who fought against this infectious disease at the forefront.
Li Wenliang (34) was an eye specialist among eight whistleblowers who warned medical personnel against the corona virus but were tortured by local police. He died on February 7 after coming in contact with Covid-19. On Saturday, Qingming Festival was also celebrated in China in which people pay tribute to their ancestors, deceased family members and national heroes and martyrs.
