Two former Indian bowlers Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar are among 150 overseas players to be listed for Lanka Premier League (LPL) auctions. The bidding for these players will start on October 1. It also features Chris Gayle, Daren Sammy, Shahid Afridi and Shakib Al Hasan. Gayle will play for Kings XI Punjab in this season of IPL. He will travel to Sri Lanka to play LPL after the IPL ends on 10 November.
Former Indian Pacer Munaf Patel took retirement from all forms of cricket in 2018. He has played 13 Tests, 70 ODIs and 3 T20s for India. Patel has also been a member of the 2011 World Cup-winning team. He has already played the T-10 league in the UAE. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not allow its cricketers to play in foreign leagues, although players can play in foreign leagues after retirement.
5 teams will play in the first season of LPL:
The first season of LPL will be played in Sri Lanka from 14 November to 6 December. The league was to be held in August but it was postponed due to Corona. Five teams will play in the first season of LPL.
Only 4 foreign players will be able to play in playing XI:
On the lines of IPL, teams in LPL will also be able to include only 4 foreign players in the playing eleven. All matches will take place in Colombo, Dambulla, Kandy and Hambantota. Each franchise has been approved to have only 6 foreign players in its team.
Organizers asked the government to reduce quarantine period to 7 days:
The organizers had sought exemption from the Government of Sri Lanka for quarantine rules for players, officials and broadcasters. But so far approval has not been received. Currently, those coming from outside in the country are required to have quarantine for 14 days. While the LPL organizers are demanding to reduce it to 7 days.
