China’s First Reaction to India’s Mission Power

China responded vigilantly on Wednesday on anti-satellite missile trials of India, hoping that all countries will maintain peace in outer space. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced that India had killed its live satellite with an anti-satellite missile in space and registered its name as space superpower and India became the fourth country in the world to achieve such capability.

After this test, India became the fourth country in the world to gain strategic ability to defeat enemy satellites. Earlier, the US, Russia, and China had this capability. 

"We have seen the news and hope that each country will maintain peace in the outer space," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a written reply to a question about the successful trial of the anti-satellite missile by India.

China conducted such a trial in January 2007 when its anti-satellite missile destroyed an inactive weather satellite. Modi said that the new capacity we have achieved was not against anybody. The satellite was a predetermined target at a height of 300 km.

China, on the other hand, was guarded in its reaction to the launch of the anti-satellite missile.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry, in a written response to a question from news agency PTI on India successfully test-firing an anti-satellite missile, said: "We have noticed reports and hope that each country will uphold peace and tranquillity in outer space."

Modi said that the purpose of mission power was to strengthen India's overall security and this mission was led by DRDOThe External Affairs Ministry said in a statement issued in Delhi that there is no intention of joining any arms race in India's outer space.
