Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Christopher Wray has said that China is the greatest long-term threat to the future of America. He said this at an event at the Hudson Institute in Washington on Tuesday. China is engaged in a whole-of-state effort to become the world's only superpower by any means necessary and was working to compromise America's coronavirus research. China has also begun targeting Chinese nationals living abroad.
Christopher said that China is increasing its interference in the US in many ways. This includes spying on the economic situation, data theft, and illegal political activities. It is also trying the trick of bribing and blackmailing government employees to influence the policies of America.
Wray further said that we have reached a point where every 10 hours a counter intelligence case related to China comes up. There are currently about 5000 cases of counter intelligence in the country. About half of them are related to China. Chinese President Xi Jinping has launched the intelligence operation 'Fox Hunt'. Under this, those people of China are being targeted who live abroad and from which the Chinese government is in danger. The Chinese government wants to force them to return to China, and China's tactics to accomplish that are really shocking."
Christopher said that matters related to China would soon be handled by Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo and the Attorney General. Tensions between China and the United States have increased since the outbreak of Coronavirus. Two days ago, Mike Pompeo spoke of shutting down Chinese social media apps in the country. He said that these mobile apps work to gather information for China.
