China has approved for clinical trials of its first Nasal Spray Vaccine against coronavirus. The first phase trial of China’s nasal spray vaccine is likely to begin in November and may involve up to 100 participants. According to reports, this is the only vaccine of this type approved by the National Medical Products Administration of China.
The vaccine is being developed under a collective mission between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland that includes researchers from the University of Hong Kong, Xiamen University and Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy.
Nasal spray could provide protection against both influenza and corona:
University of Hong Kong microbiologist Yuen Kwok-Yung said that the vaccine catalyzes the natural infection pathway of viruses coming into the respiratory system to develop the immune system.
He said that vaccination through nasal spray could provide protection against both influenza and novel coronavirus. Yuen said it would take at least a year more to complete all three clinical trials of the vaccine.
We need not be discouraged, Such things happen: WHO after AstraZeneca pause
Meanwhile, World Health Organization chief scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan says that the agency is not too worried about the trial. The vaccine is being developed by Oxford University and the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.
She said that the interruption of the trial of the Oxford Vaccine has given the world an opportunity to understand that there are fluctuations in research. She also said that thousands of millions of tests need to be done to determine whether the vaccine is capable of protecting people from the disease.
