The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on former finance minister P Chidambaram's bail petition.

The bench of the court headed by Justice R Banumathi asked the investigation agency to file a fresh affidavit. The case will be heard next on November 26. The ED was represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who told the court that a response will be filed by November 25. Chidambaram had approached the top court on Monday after the Delhi high court denied him bail last week.

A bench headed by the newly sworn-in Chief Justice of India SA Bobde ordered Chidambaram's bail plea to be listed before a suitable bench on Monday. "It is listed before an appropriate bench on November 20," the bench said in its order late evening.

Earlier, on behalf of Chidambaram, senior advocate Kapil Sibal demanded that the bail plea be listed immediately. Sibal said this from the bench, which also includes Justices BR Gavai and Suryakant. Chidambaram has been in jail for nearly 90 days. The Delhi High Court on November 15 dismissed Chidambaram's bail plea in a case filed by the ED, stating that prima facie charges against him were of a serious nature and he had committed the offense. Played an active and important role. Chidambaram was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in the INX Media Corruption Case and was granted bail by the Supreme Court on October 22.
