In IPL-2021 Phase-2, the match was played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, which Chennai won by 6 wickets. CSK had a target of 157 runs in the match and the team achieved it with 11 balls to spare. With the victory against RCB, Dhoni has once again reached the top of the points table.
CSK got off to a great start
Chasing the target, Faf du Plessis and Rituraj Gaikwad gave CSK a good start. Both added 71 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad, who was in good form, was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal after scoring 26 runs (38) off 26 balls. After his wicket, Glenn Maxwell took the wicket of du Plessis (31) on the very first ball of his over. After the opening pair returned to the dressing room, Harshal Patel dealt a third blow to CSK by dismissing Moeen Ali (23). Patel also showed the way out of the field by dismissing Ambati Rayudu (32) in his very next over. However, the match was out of the hands of RCB till the wicket of Rayudu.
7th consecutive defeat
This was RCB’s 7th consecutive defeat on the UAE ground. During IPL 13 last year, Kohli and Co had lost all their last 5 matches in UAE and this was the second consecutive defeat for RCB in Phase-2 of the current season as well.
RCB’s middle-order laid down arms
RCB had a great start. Captain Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal also added 111 runs for the first wicket. At one time it seemed that RCB would easily score 200 but this did not happen. The team’s first wicket fell in the form of Virat Kohli (53) and after that one wicket after another went on falling.
De Villiers 12, Maxwell 11, Tim David 1, and Harshal Patel returned after scoring 3 runs. Devdutt Padikkal played a brilliant inning of 70 runs for the team. RCB could only manage a score of 156/6. Bengaluru lost all their 6 wickets in just 45 runs. Dwayne Bravo was successful in taking 3 wickets for Chennai.
There was a delay of 30 minutes in the toss
The toss was delayed by 30 minutes and the match was delayed by 15 minutes due to a sand storm in Sharjah. Sand storms are frequent in Sharjah and something similar was seen in this match as well.
24 September and 157 runs lucky for Dhoni
For Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the most successful captain of India and Chennai Super Kings, the day of 24 September and the score of 157 runs is proving to be lucky. India won the title 14 years ago in 2007 by defending a score of 157 runs in the final of the T20 World Cup against Pakistan on 24 September. Now on September 24, 2021, under the captaincy of Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore with the same score.
